Types of Damage: Facility managers need to know what causes the damage in the very first place if you want to know how to prevent damage to a gym floor. Mostly, the variety of events that are held in a gym will be wear out finishes but there are some areas that are more prone to create damages. The biggest damage factor on the gym floor is the concreted traffic on certain areas such as volleyball court by the net or in the areas for basketball. To recover all the gym floor problems, one of the best way is to have it completely coated or sealed.

Choosing a coating: There are mainly two product choices for coating a gym floor which are, a water-based coating or an oil-modified coating. However, at the beginning of the floor’s life, it is important to keep water away from touching wood. While oil-modified coating can be more flexible to be used. Generally, facilities should have a program that features an oil-modified urethane for around two to three years to ensure the products get filled into grooves and moves better with the floor. On the other side, wooden floors are living things that contract, expand, stretch and swell so when you have a new installation, you’ll need a product that is little softer so that it will move with that floor a bit better. So, you can make your own decision on what kind of coating you actually want based on maintenance procedure, available equipment and the type of traffic that the floor experiences.
